Shape Descriptors for Non-Rigid Shapes with a Single Closed Contour

چکیده
The Core Experiment CE-Shape-1 for shape descriptors performed for the MPEG-7 standard gave a unique opportunity to compare various shape descriptors for non-rigid shapes with a single closed contour. There are two main differences with respect to other comparison results reported in the literature: (1) For each shape descriptor, the experiments were carried out by an institute that is in favor of this descriptor. This implies that the parameters for each system were optimally determined and the implementations were throughly tested. (2) It was possible to compare the performance of shape descriptors based on totally different mathematical approaches. A more theoretical comparison of these descriptors seems to be extremely hard. In this paper we report on the MPEG-7 Core Experiment CE-Shape1.

Robust 2D Shape Correspondence using Geodesic Shape Context
A meaningful correspondence and similarity measure between shapes is particularly useful in applications such as morphing, object recognition, shape registration and retrieval. In this paper, we present a robust shape descriptor for points along a 2D contour, based on the curvature distribution collected over bins arranged geodesically along the contour. Convolution, binning and hysteresis thre...
متن کاملAvc89: Surface Description by Labelled Graphs
The aim of this paper is to propose a new way of describing three dimensional shape. The shapes to be described are non rigid shapes, like those of animal cells, which have no well defined shape. The shape descriptors are based upon Ley ton's symmetry axis descriptionfor smooth contours. Like Ley ton's contour description, a process grammar is proposed to allow the description of the change of ...
متن کاملContour-Point Signature: A New Descriptor for Matching Rigid Shapes with a Single Closed Contour
Shape matching and point correspondence recovering play a fundamental role in applications like pattern and object recognition, shape classification, image alignment and registration, visual information data mining, and many other computer vision related areas, which recently became active research disciplines due to the increasing needs in many practical fields. This article introduces the Con...
متن کاملNon-rigid Shape Correspondence Using Pointwise Surface Descriptors and Metric Structures
Finding a correspondence between two non-rigid shapes is one of the cornerstone problems in the field of three-dimensional shape processing. We describe a framework for marker-less non-rigid shape correspondence, based on matching intrinsic invariant surface descriptors, and the metric structures of the shapes. The matching task is formulated as a quadratic optimization problem that can be used...
متن کاملFish Shape Recognition using Multiple Shape Descriptors
This paper studies recognition of fish shapes using both Region based and Contour based shape based descriptors[9]. Moment Invariants are chosen as the Region based descriptor and the Simple (geometric) shape descriptors (SSD) are used as Contour based shape descriptors. The shapes are varied through scaling and rotation. Manhattan Distance is used as the classifier. The study of the recognitio...
